Marty Golden: Petition Thanks and MTA Meeting
|
Thanks to all of those who signed our petition we received 276 total signatures. I’m sure we would of gotten more but I had to close the petition to be able to deliver it on time to the Senators Office.
Here is a letter from the senator:
January 14, 2009
Dear Neighbor,
As I am sure you are well aware, the Metropolitan Transit Authority has announced plans to eliminate and reduce bus service throughout our community and City.
The new MTA budget, if approved, would include the elimination of weekend service on the X27/X28 express bus line as well as the elimination of the entirety of the B37 bus route. Weekend service on the B14 and B16, as well as overnight service on the B64 will also be lost if the budget is approved. Additionally, the MTA plan would cut bus service on the B31 after midnight and weekend service on the B2 line, both of which serve the community of Gerritsen Beach.
My colleagues and I have voiced strong opposition to these cuts and my office has organized a petition drive. The petition drive has been very successful and for those who have signed it, thank you, and for those who have not, please contact my office if you wish to at this time. The next step in this fight against the Metropolitan Transit Authority for Brooklynites happens on Wednesday, January 28. I hope that you and your neighbors will join me in attending the public hearing regarding these proposals and service cuts beginning at 6:00 p.m. at the New York Marriot at the Brooklyn Bridge, 333 Adams Street, Brooklyn.
From Bay Ridge to Gerritsen Beach, riders will be affected by the MTA’s plan to cut bus service. It is imperative that we come together here in South Brooklyn to ensure that we continue to receive the service we deserve from the MTA. The proposed reduction of service will negatively affect the local Brooklyn economy as well as the quality of life of residents here.
If you should have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. I look forward to seeing you at the hearing and thank you for your support as we look to preserve bus service in our neighborhood.

New Synagogue on S and E36th
![]() |
As previously reported on GerritsenBeach.net it turns out we have a new Synagogue on 3523 Avenue S and East 36th called BNEI TORACH of Marine Par.
Personally, I liked it better when it was Marine Perk, but then again I liked it better as Meat Supreme.
