    Where’s my medal?

  2. Mjolnir says:

    Steinhardt got it!

  3. Mjolnir says:

This HLA is allegedly nothing more than a proposal yet they DOE already has the students enrolled? We propose a High School and we need a vision? I’ve got a vison alright.

The Ts and Is for this HLA were crossed and dotted a long time ago. Don’t let anyone in a suit tell you differently.

We must have them some what rattled if they came to that meeting looking to barter a high school if we allow the HLA. I don’t understand any other reason why one needs to be contingent on the other? Why do we need to accept this HLA inorder to have a high school??? Even if it takes a few years to get the high school up and running so be it. Tell the HLA, Steinhardt, Klien and Bloomberg to hit the bricks.

I wish it were going to be that easy (tell the HLA, Steinhardt, Klein and Bloomberg to hit the bricks) but I think we have a serious fight on our hands. Thanks for getting the word out, Mjolnir. If people don’t show up at this meeting and make their presence (& their votes) felt, they will be responsible for handing over our neighborhood school. Cancel your baseball games, your book clubs, your bowling night and get over to I.S. 278 Marine Park Junior High School on May 26 at 6:00 PM. Bring your hand held signs (no poles or sticks) and your loudest voices (no bullhorns). Bring your children, your neighbors, your friends. We are hoping to have plenty of media coverage- don’t let us down.

ALSO: It is very important we with stick to the issue, which is a charter school within our middle school. What kind of charter school it is does not change the fact that we do not need or want it in our school. Please refrain from inflammatory remarks, which will only serve to weaken our case.

  5. Chernobog says:

    To clarify:
The school’s charter was approved by the State in January. Then they sent out applications (we got one; it went right in the recycling bin where it belongs) and then for some reason that defies all sense they started accepting students before they even had a location. Apparently, Steinhardt has enough pull with the DOE to get them to give him a space. Why he can’t buy a building of his own, I don’t know. To all accounts, he’s worth about 2 billion…

Anyhow, that a government agency has made a decision before the “public hearing” ought not to surprise anyone. Look at the MTA. They had “public hearings” on their fare increases so the community could give its opinion, and the MTA listened. And then they went ahead and did what they already planned to do. It’s the same damn thing. Government is out of control. It is no longer responsible to the people it is supposed to serve. The Declaration of Independence gives some interesting suggestions about what to do about that….

Chernobog, I could not agree more!

People, the time for idle commentary is over. All of our posts are for nothing without a presence tomorrow. Time to walk the talk people. Be there tomorrow. Join our TEA PARTY, Boston style.

  7. Mardie says:

Ok everyone — so we had a GREAT turn-out on the 26th. Next step: We are going to “walk” to show our OPPOSITION to the HLA in 278 this Sunday, 5/31 — Meet at 278 @ 11:00 a.m. — please bring/wear your signs (again, no poles/sticks allowed) — we will “walk” peacefully down Fillmore and over to Flatbush to express ourselves to the staff in Bloomberg’s new office on Flatbush & R.

We need a BIG turn=out for this as well — there’s no time to lose the momentum folks!!!

Are we still on? We need to let the mayor know this is OUR neighborhood and OUR schools and MOST importantly OUR children!!!! We should have a say in what goes on here!

  8. LQuinlan says:

I’m with ya as always, Mardie.

Thanks again, Dan, for helping us get the word out. Where did the reply buttons go?

  9. GerritsenBeach.net says:

    I will figure it out!
