Marine Park Residents Block Day Care Center
Residents of E38th street won an unsettling victory last night. 90% of 38th street had a meeting last night with about 55 people. To ask/confront the future owner with questions and concerns.
One of the crowds main concerns was their property values. The buyer stated that she already has a day care center and her values have not been affected. The crowd was not moved by her statement and stuck to their position that the day care center would affect the values.
Because it was going to be a “family day care center” someone had to live there by law, her parents would have been living there.
The buyer has been “turned off” by the block and now does not want to be on the block or her parents to be there. The buyers option are: buy then sell the house, keep it and rent it out, or go bail out of their contract.
Some of the issues brought up:
As to the health of the elderly person living next door in the attached home. She stated that she cant take responsibly for someones health.

Let’s be very clear here. Marine Park ’s children and families lost! E38th Street residents won.
It is truly a loss to the neighborhood. I know that the people who run this day care center are very knowlegdgeable individuals. The day care center would be a blessing to young working families….What is wrong with the people in my neighborhood…shallow minds, boy!!
Property values, please…would they rather see a shabby house on their block or a house filled with children learning in a wonderful environment. Young families have to have two incomes these days…I wish I had this day care center years ago for all of my children to attend….
Victory -two young ladies in good faith who cares about this communcity was verbally abused by 50 people who may or may not even live of this block. VICTORY – The so call princepal ,who is a key figure in this, invited them to this block meeting so everyone could meet and talk. . She was to chair it, but instead ALLOWED the girls to be shouted at and abused where they could not say anything. I would not want this person to have anything to do with my children. Hope she is not in our district. The eighty year old women who was bedridden because of this was outside shouting louder than anyone. They even went as far as saying that they did not even want them to renotivate this home which is fallen apart. Propeprty value – its already down. VICTORY – Now they are telling people what to do with their homes. Again, everything they are doing is within the law. Remeber that. I for one want to buy this house, board it, spray it with paint and leave it or sell it to a bike club. VICTORY – there is no victory from negative.and abusive people. People of Marine Park watch out — they may start telling you when you can drive down the block or maybe you can’t because you have children in the car.
I found this online — this can go towards your property value agreement. How do you like those apples
Finding: Section 21A.36.130.B allows the establishment of registered home daycares in all residential
districts with standards that ensure that the use is compatible with the residential district in which it is
located.
Standard B No Substantial Impairment of Property Value: The proposed use and development will not
substantially diminish or impair the value of the property within the neighborhood in which it is located.
Finding: Section 21A.36.130.B2 lists the standards to be maintained by the registered home day care
provider to guarantee that property values will not diminish or be impaired. The principal use on the
property will remain as a single-family detached dwelling.
Oh great, a bunch of immature whiny prats won.
I know they want to do a “family day care center” but maybe they can look into getting that place on Gerritsen and U that was recently vacated by the Puppy Day Care center…
It’s attached, not detached.
Oh- I think I heard that they may sell it to the Doggy DayCare place
you say tomato I say tomoto. It still proves that house values will only continue to drop because of the the economy not a small group family day care. Wasn’t that the main agreement.
Talk about sour grapes! A handful of anonymous posters show up on a message board to criticize other hard-working neighbors and you consider yourself civilized? I didn’t hear half the name-calling I’m reading here from the pro-daycare group today from the residents at that meeting last night. A few people who’ve spent their lives building a block to be proud of were defensive about, what they perceive to be, it being pulled out from under them. There is little any moderator can do to silence a group of adults who want to be heard. It was a meeting on the street, not the best venue but the best anyone could come up with considering the short notice.
The owner requesting no press, no photos, no filming made it seem as if she had something to hide and actually, she does. This Family Home Day Care really isn’t run the way it was intended when the designation was created. She may manage to operate under the letter of the law but certainly not the intent. Judging by the website and parent testimonials, one might think that it was more of a school than a day care and, in that case, should probably be subject to an entirely different set of rules.
Many of the school’s proponents have made a point that East 38 St. residents aren’t being “democratic” but if you ask me, “the people” have spoken. You just don’t like what they have to say.
Yes, i totally agree that these anonymous posters are not only critical but rude and nasty. They are acting like babies we took candy from, lashing out with ridiculous nonsense and they seem to know nothing about Marine Park. Honestly I’m inclined to think it’s the same person writing all these nasty comments because the only people in the neighborhood I speak to are aware of the day care center issues and are certainly totally against any commercial business on a residential street.
In any case it sounds like they probably don’t give a rat’s arse about the neighborhood. I totally understand their need for their children to escape to a loving nurturing “home” classroom environment early on to get away from such rude behavior. At least we are setting a valuable example for our children and neighbors that together we can make a difference. And we can do it without without all the namecalling and rediculous nonsense. Many of our children went to day care and they turned out just fine, and zoning laws should be looked into more closely.
Like many of us adults, our children want new friends, not strangers, living next door.

I think the meeting went very well. It was organized and no different from any other debate. I don’t care if it was loud from BOTH sides. It’s expected.
There were many questions and answers about many aspects of the proposed E38th day care center on our block in the attached residential home, and some of the answers we heard were very controversial and vague if you ask me, regarding number of children, hours of operation, etc. This seems different than the way they describe their 33rd Street location (on their website).
I sense some animosity and hatred in some of these postings from the side of the day care center. So instead of name calling, being nasty, INGNORANT, and making false accusations about us because we care about our neighbors, why don’t you just chill out and grow up. You have way too much time on your hands and you sound like a bunch of hitters and if I were your neighbor I’d be totally ashamed of you. But some of it was really amusing and entertaining!!!!
Our block has been cited as the nicest, most well kept and beautiful block in Marine Park because we work hard to keep it that way. Drive down and see for yourselves. It’s quaint and lovely. Maybe yours is too. So let’s strive to keep it that way. LIVE AND LET LIVE. HOME. Happy children playing together, neighbors who keep a look out for each other. Our children grew up together, there’s a history and heritage and that’s something that will NEVER be taken away. There’s a strong connection here, even with the families who moved away and still stay in touch. The children remain friends and re-connect no matter where they are. Many have lived here at least 30 years or more. And we welcome new neighbors with open arms. I love it here and my neighbors I know for the 15 years I have lived here…well we are here for each other. Maybe it’s not that way by you but I would hope that whoever is reading this understands where I’m coming from. The former owner who grew up in the house is probably looking down on this whole situation with tears right now.
How many day care centers have to be shut down to prove Marine Park residents past, present and future, just want a nice home in a nice neighborhood???? And no stress of businesses pushing their way in?
I think it is awesome to have such great neighbors to fight for their community as they ALWAYS HAVE and challenge the repercussions we will face if we allow a commercial business to occupy the house next door. Everything in the petition is true else we would not have so much support. Fact for Fact….it’s all true despite what you say. Our property value doesn’t need any more strain. The Daily News had a recent article and it answers concerns regarding the rising influx of day care centers occupying homes next door. If you want the link, just reply.
Don’t get me wrong. As an educator myself, I’m all for educating and there are many resources. But a residential home is for families. I’m very sorry for those of you who talk so angrily about us when it’s you who should open your eyes. I wish you luck years down the road selling your house. You all seem very frustrated and I’m scared you have no foresight. Wake up. Just because the location of the debate was on East 38th Street, we hope the entire neighborhood is in agreement and will understand how important it is to defend their property. We made our point We care about Marine Park and are happy others came and I would hope walked away with an even stronger commitment to our neighborhood and lifestyle.
We all know people live here and/or want to move to Marine Park in general because it is a nice residential neighborhood, with nearby commercial shopping and other small businesses a stone throw away. And for you CONCERNEDPARENT in reference to “Mayberry” you’re absolutely DEAD ON. Marine Park is a very strong alliance, dedicated to keeping Marine Park the best place to “LIVE” and a safe place to raise a family and educate our children. The operators of the school are described as “Active members of the community” … I am too and I have never seen them at any neighborhood events!!! I doubt they know a thing about why Marine Park is so special. Ask me and I’ll tell you how the buck stopped here on East 38th Street when the city started slapping violation orders to fix your sidewalks years back. How many of you were spared??? yah. So again, don’t aimlessly state someone as an “active member of the community”…because I don’t buy it….and don’t state jack crap until you know the facts about how this community sustains. THERE AREN’T MANY NEIGHBORHOODS LEFT LIKE THIS!!!!
I’m sorry but spend some quality time doing some research, really getting involved; and, also get a grip on yourselves…because it’s obvious the newbies and hitters are totally oblivious. This immature bashing of caring honest residents is counterproductive.
Don’t let anything change our ‘MAYBERRY’…be strong…band together neighbors…keep Marine Park RESIDENTIAL….If you’ve lived here a long time and believe in tradition, you will always support NOT LETTING ANY COMMERCIAL BUSINESS plop their arse on your block. This is MARINE PARK RESIDENTIAL NEIGHBORHOOD…and keep it that way.
I am one of the owners of Room To Grow and have been looking at this blog for the past few days and I would really like to suggest this stops. Everyone is entitled to voice their opinion and all have been heard. We have a diverse community with different beliefs and values and we should be proud of that.
Room to Grow is doing well and although this is publicity for us, it is unwanted. I appreciate all the support we have gotten from our families and community members and I hope that continues. I cannot thank you all enough.
My hope is that we all move on and use our time in more effective ways. Residents of East 38th St. have access to me and can easily contact me if they want to discuss something. I will not be looking at this blog anymore, so if you respond to my comment, please do not expect a response back from me.
Please go out and enjoy your weekends.
Since you think it is a publicity for you, then we should continue on.

I think I finally understand what really is occurring. This program is small in nature, offers the legal amount of children for a Group Family Day Care license, but did such a great job of marketing themselves as something bigger. Yes, they have a website that shows what they do each and every day and are knowledgeable in Early Childhood education since they both worked in the field for over 15 years. They are unlike the other Group Family Day Centers (96 in the total 11234 area) and one hiding out on your block. These owners are experienced in two areas, Early Childhood education and adminstration — that is why they are doing so well. They were honest from the beginning and never hid their true intentions. They are truly just a small program that wanted to do the right thing – stay small, stay legal and help out the community. They are heartbroken that it has gotten so out of hand and so misconstrued. Everyone kept telling them — that they didn’t care and that was so not true. They do care — they care about their children(that’s why they started since they have 2 of their own), their community and their families. I agree with LeeAnn it’s time to stop and let what happens happens, East 38th can’t stop what may or may not happen. Not having control of something is scary but it is life.
It is clear from the timing and content of Rayoflight’s responses, her continuous defense of “the owners,” and escalating threats that she is, in fact, Rayna Mc Guire, 33rd Street teacher and presumably partner in this business enterprise. Sounds like you and Lee Ann don’t make joint business decisions! Rayna, didn’t you read Lee Ann’s entry?
Just want to help out the community? $1300 monthly per child from 8 – 2 and hourly afterward. Let’s see, 1300 x10 = 13000. Pretty good for just helping out, especially when the owner Lee Ann – or one of them – works at Hudson Guild in Manhattan as an administrator.
Yes, you may have family values but you can’t deny how profitable your business is!
That is why they pull out their commitment of helping them finding a new buyer to avoid losing their 25k downpayment.
And let’s thank Hunt Realty that doesn’t give a darn about Marine Park. Remember that they arranged this the next time you want to buy or sell. Spread the word.
Donna, I am unsure, why are you so concerned about her full time job? I thought the issues were property values and traffic so I am not seeing the connection. My infant goes there and gets one to one care and I pay a lot less than that. Like parents keep saying, they work with families. The staff to child ratios in this type of setting are much lower than in storefronts. That is why we choose this setting. If we figure out the money end of it, let’s say they pay soomeone $9.00 an hour to spend from 8-2 with my son, that will cost them $1080. To me that does not seem like much of a profit at all. Also as the child gets older, the cost to parents gets lower. This blog is no longer productive, it is getting very mean-spirited.
Geez! The only similarity between Marine Park and Mayberry is that they both start with the letter M.
And your point is???? As is makes no sense at all just tells us you have mastered your ABC’s. Good for you.
Donna get a life – sounds like you need to get laid..
Donna get a life – sounds like you need to get laid..
What a mature and informative contribution.
To my neighbors:
I completely understand the desire and need to keep our neighborhood the way it is – a lovely place that we all call home. I am a late comer to this dialogue and am saddened to see something like this tear up a community and cause such anger and vitriole.
I know the women who own/run the daycare and have known them for a couple of years – being someone who sends my child to Room to Grow. They are kind, compassionate, responsible women who are teachers in every sense of the word. I realize this discussion is over and that everyone is moving on but I just want to say that their desire to provide a warm and nurturing enviornment for children is something we should commend them on regardless of whether or not we want to live next door. I will say that it is unfortunate that they won’t be moving in as I think you would find that their current neighbors find them beyond considerate and to be wonderful neighbors. Quiet, clean, considerate, helpful… I trust them with my most precious belongings – my children – and I am continually grateful that we “discovered” such a wonderful setting so close to home for my children. They have helped me above and beyond as a parent and I could not appreciate them more as teachers for my children, as resources for guidance when issues have arisen and yes, as neighbors.
I am glad we live somewhere where people care so much about their community – I only wish this hadn’t degenerated into something so mean… I think – since this begins and ends with wanting to do right by children – we need to think about the example we are setting for our children when we allow ourselves to spiral down a negative path.
Best wishes,
Deb

Why does anyone read that rag of a paper? Toilet paper has more integrity.
I think these women should be commended for holding their heads high and trying to do the right thing for all neighbors involved. The people on the block are acting mean and insensitive to the needs of the community. Room to Grow will not affect home values or create garbage…it will allow children to grow and become better citizens of the community. I applaud the class in which these women are holding themselves to. I don’t know if I would have been so polite in a room of people yelling at me to go away…….treat others as you wish to be treated…food for thought………maybe if the residents listened to these women instead of being ignorant the situation would not have become this ugly confrontation….act like adults residents and listen to all sides.
Hey Donna, Hunt Realty has been in marine Park for 40+ Years. ASSHOLE.
I’ve done my research as suggetsted by MAYBERRYEAST38. According to NYC a group family daycare is not considered a commerical business. There are 97 in the 11234 zip code. 2 of the 97 have had enforcement actions taken against them since 2003. Here is my source http://www.ocfs.state.ny.us/main/. What was yours?
I want to start off by saying I don’t know anyone on 38th Street (Luckily) and I don’t know the owners of the daycare. I stumbled upon this while looking for another topic all together.
Shame on my Marine Park neighbors!!!! I need to know the difference of woman in MP that have run unlicensed daycares for years in their houses without the watchful eye of the law (which I had to use because there were no quality options for my family) and Room to Grow. It is about time the neighborhood has quality daycare options for a MARRIED WORKING MOTHER (which I am). These woman have worked education into their programs that helps the mental development of children along with the small atmosphere that nurtures small children with a secure feeling. Our homes are over $400,000 to buy and most young families like mine have to have TWO incomes coming in to afford this wonderful neighborhood. By you snubbing your nose up to this establishment, you are saying that you don’t want new, young families in Marine Park unless they can afford to have one parent stay home for the first 2 years because the two store front daycare centers in our area does not take children until they are 2!!!!!!!!!!!!!
To the owners of Room to Grow, if you build it, they will come. Please ignore these shallow minded people who make mountains out of mow hills because they can not see the promise of your center and only can dwell on unproven theories of what “could” happen. I did not know the people of 38th street had a crystal ball to see into the future.
This website has as much creditability as Al Jazeera. A police officer is injured protecting the community and this story gets top billing? Anyone can post a story on here true or untrue. Facts or no facts.
I checked your link and agreed that there are 97 providers in the 11234, but when I check them according to locations there are only three providers in Marine Park, and coincidentally, all three are on East 33rd Street (two on 1540 and one on 1764). The others shut down. Anonymous(LeeAnn), give me you fax number and I’ll send them to you.
Anonymous, I agree with you 100%. Apparently, most of the fabricated comments came from you.
The most recent story gets top billing. Don’t blame the admistrator of the website if one story generates more interest than another. I’m grateful that he takes his own time and expense to provide us with information we might otherwise miss. Thanks, Dan.
Here is another fabricated comment. You don’t know the owners and you just look in their website and you already say “These woman have worked education into their programs that helps the mental development of children along with the small atmosphere that nurtures small children with a secure feeling.” Do you know LeeAnn has full time job in the city? Their website is actually misleading the public because all you can see in their website are pictures of children and the two owners.
Gee zzz….Your name really tells who you are.
Wow Anonymous (LeeAnn) and your other posting names…you totally miss the point…how predictable. Read my posting again. I don’t need to go to any links to learn about what goes on in my neighborhood. Or what’s legal or not. If you have to research it to learn about it, you know nothing about MP. That is where you lack involvement. My source is being an active member of the community which is more than what I can say for you. Much to your disappointment it’s not all about you!
I have lived here for 15 years and raised my daughter here. First off, in my opinion the owner appears to be posting several messages with different posting names (Anonymous). I was at the meeting and don’t appreciate this person making FALSE ACCUSATIONS AND SLANDERING. No scare tactics were used, just facts. The truth is neighborhoods will change if businesses are allowed to engulf our residential homes.
How DARE YOU doubt that this issue caused enormous stress to my 82 year old neighbor and that she was bedridden and had to seek medical attention as a result of learning who was buying the house. As ill as she felt, she came out to voice her opinion and defend her home, just like everyone else did. Your implications are not only inaccurate but nothing more than grasping at straws about someone you don’t even know and you are quick to make conclusions based on your own frustrations. It seems you don’t deal with opposition well but that does NOT give you the right to say anyone has lied and that anyone is using scare tactics. If I were you I would post the truth based on facts and stop making false accusations to stir up trouble in the neighborhood. From what I read, if you are one of the owners or are associated in any way with the operations of this business, you don’t seem the type of person capable of watching children and you scare me. Your words are very bitter and I would not want my children under your care.
Besides, your command of the English language needs some brushing up on. I don’t think your skills would be useful in teaching young children anything except that if your neighbor was eldery and/or ill you would not be concerned because it would not benefit you financially.
There’s much more I have to say, but I refuse to stoop to your level or deal with an ingnorant, immature, uneducated, overexaggerating, self-centered and extremely uninformed member of the community. I have never seen either of the two owner/operators of the day care center at any community meetings or events.
I think my response is important because people reading this should know that you have distorted the facts. We held this meeting because the residents of E38 and other neighbors surrounding our block wanted to their concerns and exchange information, and that’s exactly what happened. There was no “mob” and no threats or harassment. No police, no fights. If we appeared to be loud it’s because we care.
It’s hard to believe you are describing the same meeting I was at. “
Is “Ashamed to say” LeeAnn or Rayna?
I stumbled across these posts as I am new to this website and am looking for full-time employment. I feel like I am reading a nasty soap opera. I understand how the residents of E 38th St feel, as I am a homeowner, though not in the Marine Park neighborhood. It just seems that a lot of the people responding are not giving their first name but the person who calls herself “Anonymous” sounds, in her writing style, A LOT, like the Owner(s) of the new property they purchased on that block. With so much going on in this world today, we all are entitled to our own opinion. What’s the big deal about leaving a real first name and stick to the subject at hand, which seems to me is a block of Homeowners who do NOT want to have a business on their block? What are the people accomplishing by name calling and verbally attacking the residents and the comments regarding the elderly woman………I would be ashamed to think that, let alone write what was written. Sorry for interfering, maybe, instead of attacking people, stick to the subject at hand. I hope you all resolve this conflict but not everyone is going to be 100% happy. BTW, my son is looking for a house and I’m not sure he would want a business next door. I like that the neighbors on E38th St. stick together but I do not like, or agree, with the personal attacks on them.
No, Kathleen. There you have it. Like I said, I was not on here for this story but after reading all the comments, its struck a cord and I felf like sharing my opinion.
By the way, there was nothimg fabricated about my comment. I have sent both my children to a woman that babysits in her house and it would have been nice to have the option to send them someplace that they could have developed at. I’m a working mom and these issues are very important to me. Who cares if one of the owners have a full time job and she opened up a facility with other teachers working there, the fact is she seems to run a nice place that would benefit some children. After reading EVERY comment, reading EVERY article, and EACH web site mentioned, i am team day care.
LUV MP….Anonymous….MAYBERRYEast38….Mayor…ZZZ
Whats the differecne…Your all hiding under names anyway regardless of your stance on this matter. This is why this website is silly. You can post anything you want and no one knows who you are. Everyone should just move on and enjoy the summer. 38th street will be there long after we’re all gone day care or no day care. If the article is true that everyone is posting comments about then this is a dead issue. Why does everyone keep beating a dead horse?
You must be a real estate sales person at Hunt!!!
and who are you MAYBERRY
No, I’m not Mayberry you odd little person. I’m Kathleen. It was my first post on the 21 and this will me my last now. Room to Grow is better off not having this crowd around the little ones they will care for each day.
Peace out.
As a concerned Grandmother of a 2 year old toddler, I had the pleasure of experiencing the most wonderful day spent at Room To Grow in April. Financially, I could not watch my grandchild and felt terrible that she was going to a day care. The devotion and experience that I felt watching the children interact on that day was beyond what I had expected. My grandchild has excelled to a degree that I am so proud of. I want to thank the staff at Room To Grow for enriching my grandchilds education at such an early age.
That is absolutely wonderful. Perhaps they can now find a second, more appropriate, location than East 38 Street.
I am disgusted by the behavior of the residents of East 38th street.
They should be ashamed of themselves…especially Mayberry…for someone who wants to promote a “nice, safe, neighborhood”, what you are actually doing is alienating RESIDENTS of Marine Park who want to send their child to Room to Grow…not because they want to, but because THEY HAVE TO!!!
I am a full time working mother who lives in Marine Park. I have no choice but to work. Thank god for quality day care like Room to Grow. My child has been attending that school for a year. Never once…NEVER ONCE…did I ever see double parked cars, or garbage in front of their location.
I promote Room to Grow all the time to my friends and neighbors. Want to know why? Because I am getting quality care for my child, in a licensed, well run, clean, and homey atmosphere. I love the fact that my child is not in a “commercialized” day care on a main avenue. My child is in a home where capable, loving, and EDUCATED teachers look after my child while I am at work.
I think the people who are against this daycare probably never had to leave their kids when they had to work, because if they had, and had sent them to a place like Room to Grow, they wouldn’t be so against it.
Ignorance is a terrible thing…especially for someone who is an educator themselves (Mayberry)…people should look into and investigate, and EDUCATE themselves about a business before trying to knock it down.
Did any of you ever visit the 33rd Street location? Gone inside? Saw what it was like? I don’t think so.
Talk about getting a life (again commenting on Mayberry’s comments)…you should find better ways to spend their time, than trying to turn hardworking, decent families away…yeah that’s really peaceful…and by the way…East 38th isn’t the only block in Marine Park that is nice; where neighbors look after one another. There are many.
You are acting as if they are trying to open up an adult video store, or grocery store on your block. Do your research.
Unfortunately for you in the end it looks like you didn’t get what you wanted. I truly hope though that the residents of East 38th street put action to their words and show that they really are good neighbors…it would be terrible for families, or children to be treated with such ignorance and hatred when the facility is up and running.
Looking forward to an awesome 2009-2010 year at Room to Grow!!!
Here, here Melissa! I wonder if the residents of East 38th have children? Put themselves in your place?
They are ludicrous, selfish, and ignorant. I hope Room to Grow Prevails…
As per the article “I don’t see why the center is going to be here…it doesn’t make sense”…well I guess it’s the people without children, who don’t see the sense.
Way to go with the cursing…shows just how much class you have.
I have lived in MP for my whole life, as well as my parents, and grandparents. My whole family loves Room to Grow, because they see how it has helped my family and my situation. There are many people, let me repeat, MANY PEOPLE in MP who want the new facility opened. Speak for 38th street. Not for Marine Park!!!
Ron,
If you don’t have something nice to say, don’t say anything at all!!!
oh wait, I forgot, you have no class…
Thanks for sharing your wonderful experiences about Room to Grow. It’s a shame that the 38th street residents don’t investigate or educate themselves, or even speak to the families who send their children there before they bash or are hurtful, or make themselves look foolish.
My elderly parents who are loving and caring people have lived on Avenue P their whole lives. A few years ago the house across the street was sold and converted into a home for special needs adults and children. The buses are always parked in front of the house picking up or dropping off the occupants. I have never once heard my parents complain about the traffic or the change in the area. LIFE IS CHANGE – GET A LIFE RON……..

Don’t worry, Melissa. There will be a poll coming out soon to let you know how Marine Park feels having a daycare in your block. You will be totally surprise!
In response to Melissa….Rachel and others have proven that the only people here that are cursing, name-calling, bashing, dividing the neighborhood and, on top of it all refusing to foresee problems with our neighborhood becoming a magnet to others wishing to open a business in the numerous empty homes, are those posters in support of a home based business with people coming and going all the time. It has been repeated over and over again, no one has EVER been against (as you put it) or doubted the quality of Room To Grow. Maybe when others jump in the game and open rehabs and shelters and other “legal” group homes or businesses, you will finally understand. How much will you support one next door to you? Aren’t they also providing a valuable service? I am of the opinion that a home is just not an appropriate place for a business or a school. It is people like you who have made this a personal stomping ground by misinterpreting everything and making accusations, so you can make it something it is not. Anyone can see that. Case Closed.
Fran, Avenue P is a two-way street and East 38th Street is only one way.
That means they had to deal with more traffice than anybody else and yet they still did not complain. And, my father also has high blood presssure. It comes with age.
I have a group home directly across the street from me. Every day a bus stops in front of my house at 6:30. It is there for less than a minute. It doesn’t bother me, and it does not hold up traffic. There are also several school buses that stop on my block to pick up kids for school. Also does not bother me. Yes, my block was dead set against this home opening. But you know what? The residents there are quiet and don’t bother anyone. So, you really don’t know how it really is unless you are actually living it. 38th Street thinks that Room to Grow is going to be noisy and distruptive. And it most likely would not be. My son goes to Room to Grow, and it was the best decision of my life to send him there.
Street suggests a line of houses close together; Avenue suggests a line of larger houses. Most of the houses on Avenue P are larger than the reality house that Room2Grow is planning to build. Most of the businesses in Marine Park are in avenues.
Case is closed as you put it, but it’s ridiculous to compare 3 years to a place that houses recovering drug addicts. Although I agree they are both helpful facilities, you are comparing oranges and apples when you compare a day care to a drug recovering facility.
I guess it’s a case of we agree to disagree.
I meant to say to compare 3 year olds.
For the record, I will not be coming back on this site anymore; I have better ways to spend my time and my summer than to check everyday to see if someone responds to something I wrote.
With that said, I would like to make something very clear, I never called anyone a name or cursed in my reply…I simply said “ignorance is a terrible thing”. Maybe it hit too close to home.
Peace
Melissa, I know you will coming back with a different name. Who are you kidding. Catch you later, Rayna and/or LeeAnn.
If Room to Grow is wary about the quality care of the children’s and safety then they should have assessed the area before purchasing the proposed center. Advise them to research and investigate. There is a Registered Child Sex Offender less than 500 feet away from the proposed center. New York state law prohibits registered sex offenders from residing within 1,000 feet of a public or nonpublic elementary or secondary school or child care facility. I am not sure how the law applies when a daycare is moving in. Either case, I would be concerned to have my children close to a sex offender.
Are their hearing aids turned on?
They don’t wear hearing aids. And their house is of modest size. What about the houses on streets that are bought and converted into giant synagogues. They are a delight!!!!!!!
What a wonderful and intelligent comment. Nice reading.
Why don’t you give up your name, Eileen?
I can get thousands of people to sign any type of petition, so this will mean nothing to me. The point is that there are families in Marine Park who need the service and that should count for something. What about the families who need 2 incomes to get by and don’t want their children in local day care centers because their quality of care is less than that of Room to Grow.
Anonymous, your company could probably provide a quality service and help out families, but that is not the issue here. The issue is to leave our residential block the way it is and take your business in a business section.
Oh really Jackie? I’ve talked to my neighbors…they wouldn’t mind one bit. I would love it if one opened right next door to me. Do you have kids by the way? Just curious…
Melissa apparently talks with forked tongue, says she will not come back here but broke her word.
Wow…Mayberry for an educator you don’t let anyone else speak their minds. Don’t you have anything else better to do? Apparently not.
My advice to anyone who wants to voice your opinion without backlash…you won’t be able to do it here.
It seems there are more haters and mean spirited people in this world than I thought. I myself will not come back on the site…I’ll spend my time in a quality way…with my family.
Peace and love to all the haters.
Anonymous seems to know names of people. Amazingly, the owners are the only people who would have access to such info. Hmm…busted again, Anonymous. We already know the other alias’s you have used here. If you run out of names, try Yenta. It fits you, since you are so curious to know who I am. You think I’m Eileen?…is that your final answer…do you need a lifeline, phone a friend, or ask the audience? You can always use your 50/50? Just like all the other accusations and misinterpretations, you are wrong again. And you are still grasphing at straws…who cares who I am? It’s my American Dream that’s at stake here. And there are many like me who feel the same way. Just move on and fulfill your dreams somewhere else in a more suitable location.
Hey nice you dropped by as Bernadette this time. Will the real Sybil please stand up?
Yack away all you want as long as you stay on the topic of this blog. No one is stopping anyone, least of all me! I just found it amusing that your numerous personalities have vowed not to post anymore but yet you still do. Stick to the subject. If you don’t have anything besides personal attacks to post then do what you say, stop posting. We already established that a group home is not welcomed. That is the topic being addressed.
This is a great source of entertainment. I hope this goes on forever. Thank you to all involved. When’s the movie coming out? I can’t wait to see whose in the cast.
“Yack”, “forked tongue”, are you sure you are not Sybil Mayberry?, or should we say Jackie, and any other imposter you may pretend to be…maybe you are Melissa and you are conversing with yourself…very sad. I agree with the last statement by Eddie Van Halen…please do not get a life…please continue to stay on here, because it is quite amusing to see how you spend your time.
You all need to get a life…seriously!!! Especially Mayberry…don’t you want to do something with your summer…lol…this is sad if this is the only thing you have to do…your name is all over this page…count it compared to everyone elses…so sad.
Love the idea Eddie…I see it now:
title: Losers of 38th Street
cast: Main character of course would be Mayberry, supporting roles…all the other names that she/he/it signs in under
setting: the best block in Marine Park…so it wouldn’t be 38th street that’s for sure…
lol…keep it up…very funny!!!
Did anyone see the letter that the day care has stepped down?
Forget about all this bickering
Want a good laugh?

You don’t need a group home to have to deal with buses on a daily basis. We have four different school buses coming down this block daily. Each one has to honk since the kids being picked up are never ready and waiting at the curb as they should be (how courteous to our neighbors who work nights).
The real problems start when cars double park for “just a minute” for day care pick-ups and drop-offs. On a two way street, the school bus just goes around them but on a one way, it’s stuck and so are all of the cars lined up behind it. This is one of the many reasons for keeping businesses in commercial districts as opposed to residential side streets.
Why doesnt the owner of “Room to Grow” by the house next to her house and make it a daycare center. This is a residential area and we don’t want a commercial business on our block. Look on Quentin Rd Gerritsen Ave.
