I must admit, the opening of Third and Seven on Quentin Road and East 37th Street is bittersweet. Although I am very happy that a new restaurant/bar has opened in the neighborhood, it is with much sadness that I bid adieu to Flood’s Tavern. Although I have never been in Flood’s, I consider it a staple of my childhood because I would pass it every day walking to and from school. Always curious as to what went on inside, this unattainable place (for a child at least) never ceased to pique my interest.
I am not sure why I never went into Flood’s. Many may find this a ridiculous question, but considering the fact that I have frequented the other “old man dive bars” in the neighborhood, it is not without merit. I guess a part of me assumed it would always be there. And for my entire lifetime it has been. A preservationist at heart, I have fondness for places of kitsch and recognition – and for me, Flood’s will always be synonymous with an element of my childhood. I am sure many others have similar, if not more fascinating stories of places we have lost in the neighborhood throughout the years.
However, Flood’s is gone so let us welcome Third and Seven! Always one to support a local business, a friend and I dined at Third and Seven last week. The bar was fairly crowded and almost every table in the dining area was occupied. The bar/restaurant has been compared to Nora’s and the reviews I have heard from those within the neighborhood have been mostly favorable. Overall, we were pleased with our dining selections and the prices were comparable with other neighborhood eateries. It is nice to have another dining/drinking option in the neighborhood – support your local businesses!
Any other comments/reviews for Third and Seven?
Thanks Lisa for the info. Based on your review, I will be checking out the place real soon. Supporting local businesses is one of the best ways to boost the economy and keep things thriving in our neighborhood.
let the neighborhood also know that this establishment was built off of dirty money. the three owner of the bar happen to be involved in a extremely large gambling ring. and i see absolutely no need for armed security which you would never know because they are dressed like civilians and are not off duty officers.i really wish the fine people of marine park do not help them launder their money.
Wow, are they the same owners of Amici in GB that everyone pretends is a legit coffee house/bar that is really a gambling den? I’d rather see closed up storefronts than have this element in our midst.
Don’t believe everything that you hear.
It’s really sad how jealous people like to make up stories. I don’t know how often you read the marineparker, but in lieu of all of the robberies that have taken place in the neighborhood does it really surprise you that the establishment seeks to protect itself, staff, and patrons? It’s rather nice that the doormen watch the patrons as they leave so that they aren’t robbed by the real bad guys lurking on the side streets.
Baloney!
As a former neighbor of Flood’s Tavern, AKA Bill Mann’s, AKA Doyle’s(I used to live @ 3708 Quentin), it is nice to see a new face on the old place. I hope it will become a staple for good food and good times in the Neighborhood I once called home. Please patronize the new place with memories of the old days on Quentin Road in mind. God Bless.

floods was great. delicous burgers cheap cold beer . reminded me of charles bar ( now the karate school) old time local place. a new version of charles is on ave S and norstrand coldest beer in the area. as for 3ed and 7 nice selection of beer and liquor. nice food. a little upscale. and so what people like to bet whats wrong with that.
I hung out there for a bit this afternoon and it was an enjoyable experience. The bartender was very friendly and the staff was working hard even though it wasn’t too crowded initially. Bottle beer prices are a bit high for a neighborhood place but the bartender takes care of you & they have nine TVs in the front of the bar so it’s a great place to watch sports. The bar food is also a bit expensive but the prices of what may have been their lunch entrees was comparable to Nora’s. They seem to have opened the back room up for eating but I never got back there to check it out. I want to go back on a Sunday to checkout the football availability on all nine screens. Initial impression is that it’s a nice place with friendly & efficient staff.
Went back yesterday to watch the Jets game and it is a good place to watch football. Not too crowded but it can get a bit noisy at times with all the different games running on the nine TVs in the bar area. The buy backs were less frequent that the day before but one of the owners came in and bought a round. They seem to be a bit over staffed for the amount of customers and a very green young bartender made a major faux pas by charging me for a drink after his partner had announced that they were changing the guard. That wound up costing them a pretty decent tip.
My wife met me for dinner at around 7PM and we were seated right away but asked to move to a more comfortable table as we were seated in a busy section for some unknown reason. With all the staff running around they only had one waitress working and she was a bit slow in taking our order. The buffalo wings were OK but a little too spicy for a medium level order for my taste. The cup chicken soup was pretty good and my order of chicken parm was just fair but they give you a large portion. The waitress forget to bring my baked potato but she threw in an order of fries, which are pretty good, with my dogie bag. My wife had the fish & chips which she said was OK. They served fresh grilled vegetables with both our orders which were good but a touch heavy on the garlic. We both had Irish coffee for dessert which was good.
They have two large TVs in their backroom restaurant area so you can eat without missing any game action. I could see the backroom getting a bit crowed & noisy if full as it appears they are trying to fit as many people back there as possible.
Seems like they have some service fine tuning to work on but it was an overall OK experience outside of the Jets losing and a few loud mouth “degenerate gambler” types hanging out at the bar.
the owners are great people…whoever u says different is a hater! good food and staff……i think its great they have doormen…..nice guys….that one guy kinna has a funny face and scares me
