I've messed around during sing myself in an empty Madison classroom a few times and it never hurt a soul. It was fun, infact. In this case there weren't any students watching, so who cares? The janitor who ratted them out really needs to grow up. He should have asked to join in! Life is about lust and fun, and if a teacher wants to inflate the ego of some 17 year old or two adult teachers wanna enjoy their youth, have some fun and mess around in a classroom during off hours (which they dont mention), who cares? It's adventurous. That's what lifes all about! Lighten up, Americas phoney morals are the real crime in this story. Imagine all of the problems that we could solve if we all realized the morals imposed upon us by religion and government are more detrimental then not.

I agree with you Lisa. That's what really frustrates me about the teaching profession. Think about it this way. Out of maybe 100-150 teachers that have been involved in your education there have been only 2 that left that indelible mark on your life! There are some excellent teachers out there and I apologize to them for these rants, but even they know most teachers don't really care. They are in it for the primo hours that allow for family and other pusuits. They are in it for the benefits. And those are the ones who do most of the whining. And many of them lack good morals or moral judgement. You probably would say the same about the other professions you mentioned if you had need of them. We all know many lawyers suck, but it only would make a difference to you if say you were arrested for a crime you didn't commit. Or you would be more sensitive to the difference between doctors who really care and are brilliant and those who are lacking if you had serious health issues. The difference is with those professions you can choose to go to another doctor or lawyer. If a kid gets stuck with a lousy teacher, they are pretty much stuck. If a kid is smart, they can make it up on their own, but for some what they don't learn one year or in one say math class, or whatever becomes a stumbling block for them for the rest of their school careers. Too many drop out. Too many are graduated with no skills. You should see some of the resumes that go out. Barely literate. I say that for a well paying job that affords the time that teachers have, there should be more than 1 in a hundred that have a lasting impact.

I *TRY* not to comment on readers' posts but this one was too interesting to resist.

I have attended both public and private schools throughout my educational career. In BOTH public and private schools, I have had amazing, talented, brilliant teachers that were severely overworked and underpaid for what they did. True "rolemodels" in every sense of the word, these were excellent teachers that made students want to learn. Conversely, in both public and private schools, I have also had horrible teachers who seemingly only taught for the summers off/benefits. My time would have been better spent alone in the library reading about the topics we were supposed to be covering. Also, I felt that many of them were complacent and this came through in their lessons and teaching.

Across the board, through the same profession, there are AMAZING people and HORRENDOUS people. We have all came across these - doctors, lawyers, customer service, bankers, babysitters, you name it.

But if you asked me to name the two biggest influences in my life (outside of family), ranked number 1 and 2 would be two amazing teachers I have had. And those two wonderful teachers, in my mind, made up for all the horrible ones I have had. They have left an impression that has stayed with me for several years and I believe will continue to do so. I can't say the same for any other profession I have come across.

Yeah, your laughing......all the way to the bank. How about the tier 1 teachers that retire with a million dollars+ in their retirement accts? People work real jobs their whole lives and don't reach anything near that. Angry? Of course I'm angry, for all that teachers get, kids still graduate without basic skills and we pay for it with our tax dollars, Federal, State, and City. And how many are caught "with their pants down"? Having affairs with each other and with students. They can't teach teachers class. Disgusting.

I love this last post. I really did need a good laugh. Wow, it is amazing how people rant and rave about which they know nothing about. Ignorance is bliss and apparently very angry.

BULL-ONEY!!!! You teach 4 periods a day, get a lunch hour, a PREP period and a Proffessional period to do all your "modifications" and "preparation" Whenever the teachers are looking for a new contract they always start about the vague "hours spent each night", what a load of hooey. Most teachers do the same lessons, the same way year after year. The most you have to do is blow the dust off last years stuff. I am so tired of the whining of how overworked teachers are. They are now making up to 100k a year for a PART TIME JOB. Look at any school at 2:30, the teachers are tripping all over each other to get to their cars. How nice to drive to your job at 8, get out at 2;30 and have the whole afternoon, how nice to get a week off at Christmas, a week off at Easter, a week in Febuary AND the entire summer. Anyone who works a real 9-5 job for 2 weeks vacation a year knows it's a racket.

you are an ass for stereotyping. if you think that teachers only work 6 ours a day 165 days a week you are also a moron. i teach and I spend hours each night preparing lessons and often the modificications and preparations of the lesson cost me money!! the job can consume ur life if you let that's how much work there is to do. if you know a teacher that isn't overworked then she/he is not doing their job correctly!!!

What WERE these 2 thinking? I mean, get a room......anyone could have walked in on them. The janitor was obliged to report it, especially after they were abusive to him, "get the F... outta here and mind your own business!", I don't blame him. The quality of teachers has really taken a dive. All the twisted stats from the Bloomberg administration can't hide the facts. Teachers have some racket, and the Bloomberg admin has given them a 47% raise. 47%!!!!!! That is for a part time job, 6 hrs a day, 165 days a year is a part time job. It's all BS about how hard they work, it's a racket. And now they can't even manage to keep their clothes on at work. No wonder Johnny can't read.
