Neighbors Watch Out For One Another…
Thank you to Alexandra for e-mailing MarineParker concerning this morning’s shooting as well as some other occurrences in our neighborhood:
I was just reading 1010wins.com and found this article quite alarming:
http://www.1010wins.com/Cops–Brooklyn-Woman-Shot-Outside-Marine-Park-Home/6287525
I thought you guys may want to research the situation and post it on your site(s).
Also, the Kings Courier reported several burglaries in last week’s police blotter, one of which near PS 222 around 10/11 pm. Supposedly a man was held at gun point.
As an avid reader of both GerritsenBeach.net and MarineParker.net, I suggest that you please encourage your readers/viewers to remain alert and vigilant while walking around our neighborhoods.
Great advice! If anyone has other tips or concerns, please let us know!

A young man who lives on my block was held up during the holidays at gunpoint near the community drive at the end of the block. It happened around 2:00 am on a Saturday. It is very sad but when the economy goes down, crime goes up.
Just goes to show…We have to try harder to be very alert….
This past Tuesday, 2/2, several cars were ransacked in their driveways on E.38th St. off Quentin Road some time during the night. On the same block, a locked car’s window was smashed. From what I understand, other blocks were also hit. For the cars that were unlocked, and some said their cars WERE locked, the perpetrator left the car doors unnoticeably ajar to avoid the noise of the closing door. This is totally unacceptable behavior. It has become important at this time to double check and lock up! But more importantly, we have to do what we can to defray our neighborhood from becoming an easy target. And it’s not the first time this has happened and if ignored it will happen again and next time it could be more serious if an innocent resident happens to be at the wrong place at the wrong time.
These thiefs are so sneaky, they can only be identified if you happen to be up late to see them….so if you are up late…keep a look out, report anything suspicious…and please come to the monthly Marine Park Civic Association Meetings to alert the reps there, ESPECIALLY if you also became a victim of this type of petty theft. I worry it can only lead to bigger and more dangerous actions if not addressed. Among all the other things we all have to deal with in our lives, why do we have to worry should we forget to lock up? LET’S NOT LET THIS HAPPEN IN OUR NEIGHBORHOOD!
Did something like this happen to you the other night or lately? Could this be a call for action to bring back or form some kind of neighborhood watch or request cameras to catch these crimes?
For the past 2 years I had someone going into my car at night , which was parked in my driveway like many cars in Marine Park. Bascially they just went through my console and took my GPS or cell phone charger, and a school trombone. In my case the door was not locked. Mainly my fault for not checking to see if the car was locked. It happened about 3 times. What was weird is one time they took out my son’s little league bat bag and left if on my porch? I heard they caught a guy a few months ago that admitted to going through cars in Marine Park. He was actually cuaght by the Jewish patrol “Shormin” . This patrol does catch a lot of this type of crimes. Marine Park also had a rash of burgalries during the day. They would break in through the basement window in the driveways or backdoors. These were teenage theifs. You also get the occassional bike stolen from peoplse driveway. I have seen these kids walking up the block looking in peoples driveways.
Forgot to mention one summ er night a bunch of teens not from Marine Park were walking up the block vandalizing peoples stuff. They would go on their porches and take baby strollers and dump them or break planters and property, etc.. Me and a couple of other fathers actually went out a confronted them. There were about 4 teens including a female. We held them until the cops came who eventually just let them go. We warned these kids that next time we wont call the cops.
honda accord wheels are the hottest items now. 1 car got 2 taken on u and bragg and another 2 cars were victimized around the corner. its on the new accord 7 spoke wheels. the 5 spoke wheels they dont want. if you onw a honda with 7 spoke wheels, goto the dealer and get the wheel locks for about $50-$60 and a ny gas station can put them on. better than having your car on blocks with major body damage!!!
not enough people put a porch light on. with eco-friendly bulbs its cost just a few cents a nite. i have a 100 watt bulb on my porch. two 75 watts bulbs in the driveway and another 2 75 watt bulbs on my back deck. all eco-friendly bulbs. keem them on all nite fron dusk till dawn. my elec bill is never over $120 unless its the summer with 2 ac’s running.
I think it’s also important to take the time and file a police report.
Bagels…you are right, I thought about filing a report and now I will and I’m sure my neighbors will too…and with all of the above responses, I totally agree about the lights…Also…it hurts having things stolen no matter what it is….so hopefully if anyone sees anything suspicious any time of the day or are insomniacs like me, it won’t hurt to report it and hopefully it will lead to a drop in these types of crimes. God Bless.
Let us know how it is making that report. Alot of people agree that the crime stats are so good because the police discourage the official reporting of minor crime and/or downgrading the offense. Let’s see how interested they are in the problems in MP.
I think it’s still important that Marine Park folks continue to report these crimes and not sweep them under the rug because we think they will not be taken seriously. We can not accept smashed car windows, stolen bikes or vandalized yards and say, “oh well, that’s just the way life is around here.” It’s our property and I think it’s worth a trip or a call to the 63rd precinct.
the time has come for the people of marine park is to start community patrols this will make the community safer nypd can not do it alone crime is up in the
63rd but brooklyn south is keeping it under there caps.

There was a rash of bike robberies on our block last summer and of the three that were stolen in one week alone, I was the only one to report the one stolen from my son. My neighbors thought it was a waste of time and I questioned why I bothered when I got there. No one discouraged us from making the report but they certainly gave us the impression we were wasting our, and their, time. It was a crappy old bike that I never expected to see again but we made the report so that our block might possibly get a few patrols once in a while.
I doubt we accomplished anything but it made me and my son feel a little better.
well lquinian thats great more people should make reports when crime happen and if anyone in the 63rd, try to talk you out visit the community board meetings each month and voice your words to the people we put
in office.

It is true that watching out for your neighbor benifits both parties but beware of the neighbor’s that are just ‘watching’. On Kimball Street thats all they do, even when they are asleep. watch, watch, watch is all they do.
