The Marine Park Civic Meeting was last night, it was an interesting meeting. The crowd was a bit thin but there were lots of elected officials there.

Some Interesting Notes:

63rd Summary
A Deception burglary in the area.  (more info to come)

Comptroller Thompson
Wants you to know that their action center will help you. Visit: comptroller.nyc.gov/bureaus/cac/index.asp

Comptroller On the Yankees:
“The Yankees consistently overstate their rent deductions, effectively underpaying the City the proper rent due,” Thompson said. “The Yankees have understated the rent due to the City by more than $3.7 million over 33 quarters, which indicates a pattern that goes beyond an accounting error.”

Comptroller On MTA Service Cuts
Thompson’s alternative to the MTA’s proposal is a weight-based vehicle annual registration fee of $100 for vehicles of 2,300 pounds or less, plus 9 cents for every pound over that. Coupled with the reinstatement of the commuter tax or a payroll tax, this plan would generate almost $2 billion a year for transit.

Weiner
Had really nothing to report on other that the stimulus package passed, and that spending on the COPS program will allow for 400 more officers.

Lew Fidler
Senior Concert first Tuesday In June

Con-Ed program has a free bulb program. They will replace every bulb in your house. Call Fidlers office to arrange an appointment.

When asked about the Marine Park field house construction status, Lew explained that because of the winter and frozen ground, construction slowed. The slow down was expected. Lew expects a lot of construction action will take place when the weather gets warmer.

On the Stimulus package
Money from stimulus will be going directly to city not New York State. We got our fair share of our money. Thanks to the senate.

Alan Maisel

Explained that the Federal money is a trap but NY state finally got what’s its entitled too.
Hopefully money will start flowing. But Alan explained that if fundamental changes don’t happen with the way the state spends money it will be worse when the money runs out. The money will last about 2 years and then it will run out. No one knows if this stimulus will work, there is no precedent, the great depressions is not a good example.

DEC is testing the soil on Mau-Mau, the DEC is ready for next community meetings.
